How To Read Meters
First, look at the meter - electric or gas - and see how many dials it has.

Commercial electric meters have four or five dials. |

Commercial gas meters may have four to six dials. |
Note the numbers on the dials and how they are arranged. The dial on the right has the numbers arranged in a clockwise
direction; the next dial has the numbers arranged in a counterclockwise direction and so on.
If a hand is pointing between two numbers, record the number the hand has just passed (note the traveling direction of the hands). If a hand is pointing directly at a number, look at the number to the right. If the hand to the right has not made a full revolution by passing 0 (again, note the traveling direction of the hands),
the left hand should be recorded as being on the lesser number.
For Example: The middle dial below appears to be directly on the
7; however, since the next dial to the right has not yet passed 0, the middle dial is accurately read as 6.
