Energy Cost Adjustment
(ECA) Definitions


Energy Cost
Adjustment (ECA):
The cost of fuel and purchased power recovered through a Board or Commission approved adjustment clause. Also known as Energy Adjustment Clause (EAC), Fuel Adjustment Clause (FAC), or Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA).
Retail: Regular sales to customers in accordance with MidAmerican Energy Company's residential or general service tariffs.
Wholesale: Sales to municipalities that resell the power to their customers.
IPS: Iowa Public Service Company was the predecessor electric company in the Sioux City area (now called the North System).
Iowa Power: Iowa Power was the predecessor electric company in the Des Moines area (now called the South System).
Iowa-Illinois: Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company was the predecessor electric company in the Davenport area (now called the East System).
West System: The combined North and South (former Iowa Power and IPS) electric territories.
East System: The former Iowa-Illinois electric territory.
North System: The former IPS electric territory.
South System: The former Iowa Power electric territory.
