MidAmerican Energy's Commercial New Construction program encourages the design and construction of new – as well as the renovation of existing – energy-efficient commercial buildings where MidAmerican delivers electricity and/or natural gas in its Illinois service territory. Incentives are available to help offset the higher initial costs associated with the design and installation of energy-efficient options. The new (or renovated) building must receive its primary electricity from MidAmerican. Where applicable, the direct supply of natural gas also must be provided by MidAmerican.

Design Incentives
These are available to design teams who use the services of an independent building energy performance modeler (contracted by MidAmerican) who is not part of the design team of record. Prior to being accepted into the program, the independent modeler will screen the project to determine if the project meets program guidelines and to assess the likelihood of significant energy savings being gained through use of advanced energy design analysis. The independent modeler also will be responsible for producing a final energy verification report. Design incentives are determined based on the square footage and type of building.

Construction Incentives
These will be paid to the building owner based upon the kWh savings modeled and verified as installed by the independent modeler. A minimum energy savings of 5 percent beyond that required by the state of Illinois code is required to qualify. Incentives range from $.05 to $.14 per kWh. Rebate incentives also are available for natural gas savings. Projects that cannot achieve the 5 percent minimum energy savings may still qualify for rebate incentives under other EnergyAdvantage programs.
