If you think making your house more energy efficient means spending a lot of money, we've got a surprise for you. As part of MidAmerican Energy's HomeCheck, an energy specialist will come to your home to show you ways to save money on your monthly energy bills – and it won't cost you a thing.

This program is available to residential customers where MidAmerican delivers electricity and/or natural gas in its Illinois service territory.

If you are an Illinois residential customer, live in (and own) a home built prior to Dec. 31, 1997, and your primary heating energy is supplied directly by MidAmerican, call 800-545-0762 today for your HomeCheck. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In a single visit, a trained energy specialist will perform a free energy assessment and, where appropriate, install selected energy-saving improvements on the spot. These include:

		A water heater insulation blanket;
		Six feet of water pipe insulation;
		Up to two low-flow faucet aerators;
		Up to two low-flow shower heads;
		A waterbed mattress pad; and
		Up to six energy-efficient light bulbs.

At your request, a programmable thermostat may be installed for $30 plus tax. Ask your energy specialist for details.

The HomeCheck program will help you identify areas in your home where you can make the most significant energy efficiency improvements. During the assessment, your energy specialist will check your home's insulation levels, the efficiency of your heating, cooling and water heating equipment and the condition of your windows.

If your insulation is below the recommended levels and you'd like to add more, your energy specialist will arrange a second appointment with an approved contractor who will install additional insulation in your home. MidAmerican will pay up to 70 percent (maximum of $600) of the installed cost of the recommended insulation. An additional rebate of up to 70 percent (maximum of $600) is available for foundation insulation.

The results of your HomeCheck are provided to you in writing so you will have a clear plan of action to make your home more comfortable and efficient.
