Customer Guide: Understanding Your Choices

Customers have the power to choose
a:

 |
 |
Retail Electric Supplier – Customers of Illinois investor-owned
utilities can choose the company that produces or supplies their electricity.
Electricity will be available from retail electric suppliers, which must be
certified by the Illinois Commerce Commission. MidAmerican Energy's retail
division, other electric utilities selling inside MidAmerican's
regulated service area, and aggregators, or group buyers, are considered
retail electric suppliers. (Electric co-ops and municipal systems may offer their customers a
choice, but are not required to do so.) Even if you select a different
supplier, you will remain a delivery services customer of MidAmerican.
|
 |
 |
Meter Service Provider – Customers who choose a
retail electric supplier also may be eligible
to select an alternative meter service provider registered with MidAmerican
to provide unbundled metering services.
|
Customers have the option not to choose – Customers also
may choose to do nothing,
and remain with MidAmerican as bundled customers. That is, MidAmerican will
continue to handle the generation, transmission and distribution
of customers' electricity and related services. Customers are not obligated to make a
change; the
law simply provides the opportunity. |
